Reference project: MV Werften

In 2018, MV Werften started building the first cruise ship. These passenger ships are not only the largest that are built in Germany, they are also the most technologically advanced. The ships of the so-called Global Class are specially designed for the rapidly growing Asian cruise market and feature a multiplex cinema, a theme park, a spa, various Asian restaurants as well as fast food alternatives and a luxury shopping mile.

In order to be able to build the three different types of ship technically and economically, a detailed analysis of the procurement and material supply of C-parts for shipbuilding at the locations Wismar, Rostock and Stralsund. The analysis was challenging given the complex shipbuilding processes for three fundamentally different types of ships and the size of the yard areas (together approximately 1.8 million m2).

The result of the C-part analysis showed

  • A large variety of articles
  • Choice of different suppliers
  • Numerous manual orders
  • Different procurement and provisioning processes

Based on this information, fundamental changes were decided in autumn 2016. A single service provider should take over a large part of the C-parts management. In addition, a uniform logistics process was also to be introduced - across all product areas, with standardised RFID technology and an ordering platform for triggering demand for all items. Keller & Kalmbach's logistics system, which was newly implemented in March 2018, then simplified and accelerated the procurement and production supply process across all products. The use of eLogistics, which allows the integration of additional suppliers, was a decisive factor here.

The solution in detail
MV Werften now uses a combination of different, self-controlled logistics systems. eLogistics serves as a common platform for all articles - in conjunction with the dropLOG® and parkLOG® kanban systems. dropLOG® triggers an order when an empty container is placed in the RFID box. parkLOG®, on the other hand, triggers an order when an empty container is placed on the RFID mat. With both systems, the order data is transmitted from the customer to Keller & Kalmbach via GSM. A total of over 14,000 RFID Kanban containers from Keller & Kalmbach are in use. Ten additional suppliers for product areas are currently connected via eLogistics, which Keller & Kalmbach does not offer directly (e.g. small electrical parts). The delivery is made conventionally to the incoming goods department of MV Werften. The Keller & Kalmbach service employee takes over the Kanban service on site, i.e. the distribution of goods and filling of the decentralised shelves.

The essential advantages of eLogistics

  • A logistics platform for the automatic management of all articles
  • Security of supply at the points of demand
  • Multi-supplier capability and control of in-house logistics
  • Simplified article changes thanks to innovative NFC labels
  • Missing containers, defective transponders and illogical orders are detected by eLogistics
  • Transponders are energy autonomous for ten years
  • Connection to existing ERP systems
  • Extremely large variety of articles - optimised to meet customer requirements - and customised logistics solutions

The three shipyards in Wismar, Rostock and Stralsund are among the largest and most modern shipbuilding companies in Europe. The group of companies with headquarters in Wismar has direct access to the Baltic Sea at all locations, weather-independent production facilities and an efficient logistics infrastructure - and thus combines innovative high-tech production with comprehensive shipbuilding expertise. In their respective 70-year histories the shipyards have designed, manufactured and equipped a total of some 2,500 new ships, including cruise ships for AIDA, RoPax ferries for Stena Line and river cruise ships for Premicon. Today the company specialises in the design and construction of luxury cruise ships, river cruise ships and mega yachts. MV WERFTEN continuously invests in new technologies, equipment and staff qualification to ensure excellent quality "made in MV".

Logistics systems by Keller & Kalmbach

Keller & Kalmbach already offers you the next generation of Kanban solutions, which are based on RFID and NFC technology and can be combined individually. The versatile logistics systems make a key contribution to leveraging process cost savings and thereby to implementing your logistical requirements.

The order is placed by rotating the two-piece split container.

The order is placed by pressing a button. The perfect solution for bulky material.

Using the latest weighing technology, weightLOG® continuously monitors the fill level in the container.

When using dropLOG®, the order placement process is triggered via insertion of an empty container into the RFID box.

Order triggering is performed as soon as the empty container is transported through the RFID gate.

With parkLOG®, the order is triggered by placing the empty container on the RFID mat.

With parkLOG® wireless the order is triggered by placing the empty container on the energy self-sufficient RFID mat.

MRO automatic dispensers for ordered and secure material issuing.

The order of the empty containers is triggered by scanning via smartphone/App

Ordering is triggered by distance measurement after removal.

Logtopus
